How to add YouTube start time to embedded player

Last updated:

Iframely supports the YouTube's native t parameter, which allows you to specify the exact start time in seconds of the video. When you include this parameter in your YouTube URL, Iframely will embed the video starting from the specified timestamp.

Using YouTube to generate the start time URL

  1. Generate the start time on YouTube.
  2. Right-click on the video and select "Copy video URL at current time," or click on the "Share" button below the video. In the share dialog that appears, tick the checkbox labeled "Start at" to include the timestamp automatically.

3. Use this URL with Iframely to generate the embed code, ensuring your video starts at the specified time.

Change the 't' parameter in the URL directly

  1. Include the t parameter in your YouTube video URL to specify the start time in seconds. For example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ&t=43
  2. Use Iframely to generate the embed code for your URL with the timestamp.

Cherry-pick via Iframely

Iframely also offers a more flexible approach called the "cherry-picking" mechanism. This method allows you to specify both start and end times for YouTube videos, providing greater control over what part of the video is embedded.

  1. Bookmark and go to iframely.com/try.
  2. Enter your URL and request an embed.
  3. Choose the options you like for your URL in the form on the left of the preview.

4. Once ready, hit the “Copy new URL” button - the options your cherry-picked will be included in that new URL.

5. Go to your app, and post that new URL instead of the original for the exact rich media embed.
