# Iframely for publishers

Welcome to Iframely's Publisher Guides. This section is for site owners, webmasters, and content teams who want to understand how Iframely accesses and represents their content across the internet.

Iframely is a software as a service that helps applications and platforms work with web content — from link previews and rich media embeds to automated processing such as discovery, search, and AI-assisted retrieval.

Iframely acts as a technical intermediary between publishers and the applications that use our services. We may access your website under one of our three separate agent identities — Preview Agent, Processing Agent, and Training Agent. Agents are used by Iframely for different types of access requested by our customers, so publishers can distinguish and control them independently.

## How Iframely works

Iframely works with individual URLs, taking them as input. We fetch one URL at a time, do not crawl other pages, and do not follow links.

The **Preview Agent** handles link previews and rich media embeds when a person shares a URL. It delivers rich media from over 1,900 publishers and fetches basic metadata, thumbnails, and the information needed to create a card preview of any other public page that is optimized for social sharing.

The **Processing Agent** handles automated processing on behalf of customer applications, including **Assist, Discover, Search, and AI-Input**. Unlike the Preview Agent, the original fetch trigger is not necessarily a human.

The **Training Agent** is called when a customer requests content for training or dataset use. By default, we only provide the public preview data and require specific page signals or explicit permission to deliver more.

## Your content, your controls

Iframely reads common public metadata, structured data, and media information. If your site already provides standard metadata for social sharing, it will likely work well out of the box.

For automated processing, what Iframely delivers to customers depends on their processing mode, your domain settings, publisher and page technical controls, and other applicable restrictions and signals.

You can learn more about the exact modes, the content pieces Iframely works with, and how access to these pieces is determined in:

## Publisher Console

The Iframely Publisher Console gives you visibility into how Iframely sees and uses your content, along with controls for your domains.

With a free publisher account, you can:

- inspect how Iframely processes URLs on your site;
- see information about Iframely requests to your domains;
- configure content policies for your domains and specific paths;
- opt in to or restrict access to additional content types and processing uses;
- apply rules to specific Iframely customers where supported.

To manage a domain, you'll need to verify it through DNS. You can also get read-only access by signing up with an email address at that domain.

## Make your site work well with Iframely

Iframely understands widely used standards including [Open Graph](http://ogp.me/), Twitter Cards, [oEmbed](https://oembed.com/), and structured data such as LD+JSON and microformats.

Use our [public URL debugger](/debug) to see generic information that Iframely sees on your page, or check URLs in your publisher console for the exact results that Iframely cloud customers get.

You can also manage your domain settings in our publisher console. See also:
